On Your Knees
What in the world are you thinking? You can’t do that! It will never work and mark my words, you’ll regret it.
Have you ever heard these words? They are especially painful when undertaking a risky but heartfelt project or dream. What happens if the dream falls apart and the words are, in their own way, prophetic? What a quandary. Ever been there?
2 Cor. 13:11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
Let’s say that the dream crumbles into pieces at your feet. You kneel to sift the remnants through your fingers. A few people spare a curious glance your way but no one stops on his or her busy path. You are alone. What do you do?
Options, anyone? Rage, scream, or hit something? Cry, sleep, or hide? Eat until you can’t breathe? Smoke a cigarette or three? Drink a pint or two? Drive one hundred miles an hour until you don’t feel pain anymore? Call someone? Pray? What do you do?
Before you do anything, take a deep breath. Exhale and . . . smile. You are not alone.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'
So, let’s look at those options once again. There’s one that gives access to power and I’m not talking about pistons and gasoline. I’m talking real power, the kind of power that transforms a devastated life into a triumphant one. Power that wipes away broken dreams and gives one the strength to form new ones. Have you tapped it yet? Do you know how?
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
You’re on your knees already, combing through the trash (sorry to be so blunt). It’s a perfect position! Lift your voice to the Lord and let your heart be known. Go ahead and unload. Scream, cry, rage . . . Just remember, the consequences are not always pleasant. Be honest with God, He’s always honest with you. If you’re mad, don’t hide it. Fear tearing at you? Share it. Doubt, insecurity, or failure eating at your self-esteem? Lay it on His shoulders. He’s waiting.
The dream or project will rise again. Whether from the ashes of the old or as brand new adventures, blessings sprout from the Lord. The dream becomes reality once again. So do the challenges. How will you face them this time? Alone or on your knees?
You only have to turn on your bedside lamp to see your possible future. After trying almost 2000 times to create the carbonized cotton-thread filament for the incandescent light bulb, Thomas Edison finally succeeded. When asked about it, he said, “I didn’t fail; I found out 2000 ways how not to make a light bulb.” He only needed one way to make it work.
Now it’s your turn. Keep trying. Don’t give up. Know that you are never alone and You have Someone mighty on your side! What will you do?
